The Film Release date: May 1960 Studio: Allied Artists Running time: 93 minutes Director: Fred M. Wilcox Cast: Sonya Wilde, James Franciscus, Pat Michon, Elizabeth Council, Griffin Crafts, Isabel Cooley Technical information: mono, black and white A light-complexioned African-American girl (Wilde) marries her rich white boyfriend without divulging her family background. She suffers many travails and goes home to her mother. Eugene Archer, in his review of the film for The New York Times, commented, "Amateurishly written, directed and played, this low budget offering capitalizes on a delicate theme by depicting its subject in terms of tabloid sensationalism. The result, particularly for the audience, is grim." |
