This August, John Williams will lead two performances with
Yo-Yo-Ma and the Chicago Symphony, in a program that will include
selections from Williams' score from Memoirs of a Geisha. The performances
will be recorded for future CD release by Sony/BMG Masterworks.
This April, Williams will lead a special benefit concert with the Detroit Symphony. In May, he returns to Boston for several performances of a Film Night program, to feature "A Grand Suite from Harry Potter," narrated by Lynn Redgrave. Later in the summer, Williams will also conduct the Boston Pops at Tanglewood, in his annual Film Night at Tanglewood program (to feature music from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) and will participate in the traditional Tanglewood on Parade event. Williams will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a tribute to the films of Stanley Donen, as well as some of his own classic scores, at the Hollywood Bowl on August 29 and 30. The Houston Symphony will perform Williams' Horn Concerto and Celebration Fanfare in April 2009. Learn more by consulting the performance calendar. On Friday, August 17, Williams' Duo Concertante for violin and viola was given its world premiere at at Tanglewood prelude concert by Boston Symphony musicians Victor Romanul and Michael Zaretsky. The work was also performed on October 22 at Boston University and will eventually recorded. Williams has also recently completed a viola concerto. The Deutsche Grammophon album featuring the first (and, to date, only) recording of John Williams' Sinfonietta for Wind Ensemble has been released on CD in Japan by Tower Records as part of their "Tower Vintage Classics" series. The CD also includes music of Krzsysztof Penderecki and Toshiro Mayuzumi, all performed by the Eastman Wind Ensemble under the direction of Donald Hunsberger.
